Finn Peter Vesterbacka, one of the authors of the cult game Angry Birds – a frequent visitor to our capital, which is especially nice, as now seems to be a good friendship with every foreigner in the account. Peter is actively developing business ties with Russian partners, visits, as I found out, closed the event with the participation of our Prime Minister, but the desire to communicate with journalists is off – too busy.
However, the correspondent of “companion” during one of his recent visits to Moscow Vesterbaki managed to get his exclusive interview.
– Peter, you watched the movie Hitchcock’s “The Birds»?
– course , about eight years ago.
– This is it inspired you to create Angry Birds?
– Ha-ha-ha! Not really, although it is a great movie. In fact, I just suddenly had this idea – make a game about evil birds, and then my colleagues and I developed it with the help of many sleepless nights of meetings and revisions.
– you most fun to play in this the game? Be honest!
– Of course! The fact that there are different games – racing, shooting, and the like. For me as the author is very important to play your games and games of other authors. Need to be familiar with your product, as well as goods offered by your competitors. For me it is important to expand the target audience, to move from animation to consumer goods. So I try to understand the other games, to understand what they are attractive to the public.
– Could you advise the Russian developers how to achieve the same success as you?
– One standard solution is not. You can try different options and see how successful the outcome. Angry Birds – is a strategy game. It makes you think. In this game a lot more sense than it seems at first glance.
– Really?
– Yes, imagine. Easy to get a “star”, but you can get three, and it motivates players. It requires logical thinking and planning their moves.

– These days, kids spend too much time for games , do not you? What would you advise parents to get rid of this addiction?
– Nothing! Absolutely! I think it is useful to play, but of course, in moderation. For example, twenty minutes. According to one study, people spend an average of two hours a month playing Angry Birds. At the same time, in the US they spend 158 hours a month watching TV. So I think it is much better to play the game than watch TV – clean if you calculate how much it takes time. During the game you are actively involved and working head, while watching TV programs it almost does not occur. In addition, one study was conducted, which revealed that children who play computer and catch-up shooter, know better English than those who do not. Just because all the commands in English, and in most of them do not translate into their native language. It’s great, is not it?
