LG will release 4K-TV using quantum technology in 2015 – Lenta.ru

LG will present at CES-2015 TV using quantum dots. In the sale it will go until the end of 2015, its screen resolution will be 4K (3640 to 2160 points). This is stated in the release.

The use of quantum dots allows you to create TVs with color reproduction more accurate than the OLED-displays, is considered the best in this parameter at the moment. Quantum dots are tiny crystals of 2 to 10 nanometers, the thickness is about 20 atomic layers. They emit a color which depends on their size, but in any case a narrower range than the existing light sources. This makes it possible to increase the accuracy of color, according to the manufacturer.

«LG plans to use quantum dots to improve the backlight liquid crystal matrix, effectively replacing them phosphors, which are now used in conjunction with blue photodiodes. It really will improve color rendition “- explained” Lente.ru “meaning the use of quantum dots in TVs Ruslan Yunusov, General Director of the Russian Quantum Center. He noted that a similar approach previously adopted by Sony in 2013. But has not yet created a more interesting from the point of view of the apparatus Yunusov, where quantum dots would play the role of individual pixels. This prototype 4-inch Samsung was introduced back in 2011. However, the technology is still quite difficult to reach the mass market.

«On the whole technology of quantum dots can be a leading, ahead of OLED-technology, especially in the big screen, as the chemical composition of different color points are absolutely identical. Wow, that quantum technology is gradually coming to the market, turning from fantasy into the mainstream, and this process will only increase, “- he concluded.

Earlier screens using quantum dots introduced by Sony in the TV KD-65X9000A, and also in the Amazon tablet Kindle Fire HDX, Chinese TCL later in September announced their device based on this technology. LG delivers 17 percent of TVs in the world, according to the resource Mashable, this means widespread adoption of the technology in mass production, although the first device, the Korean company will present in the upper price range.

The company uses quantum dots as an addendum to the conventional LED lighting, so the design of monitors will be close to the usual models on the liquid crystal matrix. This gives hope for a relatively low price compared to new displays with OLED-matrices. For example, according to Reuters, 65-inch TVs by Sony, using quantum dots, three times cheaper models Korean company of the same size on the basis of organic light emitting diodes (OLED): 3800 compared to $ 11 thousand dollars.

The company LG announces that got rid of the major drawback of quantum dots – the use of cadmium, which pollutes the environment.
