Philips at IFA 2014: Curved Ultra HD-TV has received its version of Android – Mail.Ru

Philips has traditionally saved for IFA few announcements. Not have long to wonder: naturally replenished lineup flagship series Ultra HD-TVs, as well as the curved model. All in full compliance with the trends prevailing in the television market. Do keep up with them for Philips? It is, after all their TVs among the first switched to Android and got the support of the cloud gaming service OnLive.

The new flagship series Philips received index 9809. This TV is available in a single version with a diagonal of 65 inches, which absorbed most rich equipment. For example, here there was a system of double tuner and a full four-sided illumination Ambilight, which can be integrated with home lighting Philips Hue.

The software part of TV switched to Android, but it should be emphasized that this is a private version, adapted for Philips. Certified by Google Android TV appears on the 2015 model year. However, the version of the Philips still has access to Google Play and allows you to install applications. Compatibility issue, one way or another, will become clear when the system will be able to test this in practice. In the meantime, there are no serious obstacles, except for a small amount of memory to install the default content (1.6 GB).

Even more interesting is the presence of a television client OnLive. This “cloud” service offers customers a full game, which is transmitted from the streaming process of the cloud on the screen of the device. So, no need to have a top iron to play heaped game, although the picture quality suffers because of streaming. In any case, the opportunity to play in the “big” games on the TV screen, not having any iron (PC or set-top box) – it’s interesting.

Gamepad connects directly to your TV, avoiding anything superfluous. In all this there is only one downside – increased delay control response (after all, is added to network Ping and so on), as well as cross-clamping with intermittent image frame rate. But some will agree to make such sacrifices for the sake of simplicity.

A few areas stand Philips has been allocated under the demonstration of the differences between the standard Full HD-TVs and models Ultra HD. Oddly enough, the only comparison-definition required to resort to using a magnifying glass, which was fastened to the TV, but the difference between the local and the side LED-backlit display is visible to the naked eye.

It seems that an advanced “carpet” lighting system is present in the flagship series 9809 under the marketing name “Micro Dimming Premium”, and gives very good results.

A separate zone for the demonstration took Ambilight – where do without it, because the Ambilight to literally became the hallmark of TVs Philips. The new four-sided version – the old dream of all her fans.

In the wake of the popularity of a curved form factor Philips could not afford to be without a model in this segment. Meet: Philips 55PU8909C – a curved 4K-TV with a diagonal of 55 inches, is also running Android.

Finally, on a separate wall could see the whole range of the TV Philips – as Full HD, and Ultra HD-models, which were supplemented by a series of more affordable 7909. Admission to the Ultra HD is below, it is a fact.

As you can see, Philips are trying to follow all the current trends, and no spirit of the times is not ignored. At the same time, the set mode has not yet been obtained. Cautious steps Philips responds to the steps of its competitors. Not that this is something bad – especially in our time when many brands are suffering massive losses or even withdraw from the TV market.
