LG at CES 2015: new line of 4K ULTRA HD TVs, including OLED – Mail.Ru

Today in the CES 2015 held a large-scale announcement of a new line of TVs LG. As expected, the backbone accounts for LCD TVs format 4K / Ultra HD technology with an extended color gamut. But the line of OLED-TVs from LG, so far the only one on the market, has received substantial completion in 2015. For more information about updates – in our material.

It’s no secret that in recent years the pace of development of LCD technology has slowed down, and we see mostly quantitative improvement rather than quality. Actively promote the resolution of 4K – possibly due to the fact that other indicators stood still. Judging by the current CES, the major manufacturers undertook another element with which you can experiment – backlight LCD panels.

From now on, in the line of LCD TVs LG older models will be equipped with special lighting using quantum dots (Quantum Dots), which gives a very clean and deep primary colors RGB. This achieves a color gamut of 30% wider than the usual standard Rec. 709. Other senior series of LG TVs will receive LED-backlit using phosphors (Wide Color LED), which also expands the color palette and makes it juicier.

All the series of LG TVs with a wide color gamut receive special branding – Color Prime, so you can easily distinguish them from conventional models of this title.

What to say, the palette of new TVs really noticeably juicier, although such content, sharpened by the wide coverage, there is still no. On the other hand, Standard Rec. 2020 adopted for 4K / Ultra HD, still far exceeds the capabilities of TVs. It turns out that we have steps in the right direction, but not the ultimate solution to all problems.

The rest of the Ultra HD-TVs LG branded adhere traditions: the widespread use of the LCD-IPS panels with wide viewing angles (resolution 3840×2160), ultra-thin design and ULTRA Slim improved sound system, developed in partnership with Harman / Kardon (on selected models).

The thickness of the TVs LG Art Slim series, this time fell to the prodigious quantities of a few millimeters – a very impressive result for LCD technology.

This is made possible through the use of the special structure of the body, where the back cover is made of aluminum composite is also the carrier substrate. This solution helps to give the LCD TV appearance, as if it were ultra-thin OLED-panel – of course, in terms of design.

As we have already mentioned, LG TVs will be transferred to the operating system webOS 2.0, which promises many improvements. For example, the boot time was reduced by 60%, and the connection to external devices became easier. What is interesting in the system were more flexible configuration options “launchpad” to your liking. Of course, the overall performance optimization went only benefit, because the previous version 1.0 does not always work as smoothly as we would like. WebOS 2.0 version just take into account these shortcomings, and so that was a little bit.

Hardware Platform Ultra HD television sets to receive a general algorithm upscaling 4K Upscale – the best way to convert content format SD / HD up to Ultra HD. Moreover, the built-in media player supports the codec H.265 / HEVC UHD and video at frame rates up to 60p – this gives an additional “safety margin” for the future, along with HDMI 2.0.

Despite some stagnation in the technology segment LCD TVs, LG was able to show some impressive new products – this LCD TV with newfangled lighting on quantum dots, and ultra-thin models, which may also go on sale this year. But the most interesting trends LG, of course, belong to the category OLED-TVs.

As promised, ruler LG OLED replenished several models, and finally a division on curved and flat version. Earlier, the “flat» OLED TVs offer only expensive performance Gallery OLED. Now the buyer more choices: from the initial version of the 55 “Full HD and up to an impressive 77-inch OLED-TV class Ultra HD.

So, the 55-inch TV LG 55EC930V (Full HD) is transferred to the line in 2015 without changes and becomes OLED-TV, entry-level. Perhaps the official price reduction on this model. In turn, the all-new series of OLED-TVs were allowed 4K / Ultra HD.

The new flagship was a series of EF9900 (in the US) – a 77-inch 4K OLED TV with a variable radius. We have already seen a prototype in 2014, but now he has become a full production model. The viewer can change the curvature of the screen as desired by adjusting the banal with the remote.

In addition to this innovation, the TV is equipped with webOS 2.0 and advanced audio system Harman / Kardon. Presumably the price of this offspring will be very rather big.

Behind him is a TV 65EF9800 (EF980V in Europe) – 65-inch flat-panel 4K OLED-TV with webOS 2.0 and integrated soundbar Harman / Kardon. Series LG EF9500 (flat) and EF9600 (curved) are available with a diagonal of 55 and 65 inches. It 4K OLED-TVs equipped with webOS 2.0, but with the usual sound system. By the way, EF9500 got a unique design with a clear stand and “floating” effect. Also in 2015 transpired series EC9700 (EC970V) in Europe – 65 and 77-inch 4K OLED-TVs, equipped with webOS version 1.0.

As you can see, LG introduced not only an LCD TV with some “tuning” of illumination, but also truly innovative OLED-TVs, including a model with a bendable screen.

Such a diverse range of models can not yet boast of any one company. The successful launch of production OLED-TVs definitely a turning point for LG.

Let’s see what consumers will vote, but so far everything looks pretty rosy: it is believed that it is OLED-TVs will help LG finally win the market in their favor. The main thing that the pricing policy does not disappoint, because the product is still not cheap, despite the regular price reduction.
