Scientists have learned what is dangerous to the health of the TV – Russian newspaper

If too often sit in front of TV, you may have a health problem. In the case of such a regularity every hour spent watching television, may increase the risk of diabetes by 3.4%, the scientists warn.

Apparently, the thing is immobility. It could also lead to an increase in weight of the person, and this is a risk factor for diabetes.

In order to participate in the study, researchers from the University of Pittsburgh have invited more than 3,200 men and women who are overweight older than 25 years. With their help, scientists have tried to figure out how to prevent the development of type 2 diabetes in people at risk.

The volunteers were divided into three groups: the first gave the drug metformin, the second offered to increase their activity level, and the third received a placebo .

At the beginning of the study in all three groups of people spend time watching television about 140 minutes a day. Plus 400 minutes they spent sitting at work.

By the end of the study people from the “active” group began to spend less time watching TV and less sitting at work. On average, they spent in a sitting position on 37 minutes less. The men in the placebo group and take the medicine is not so zealous in this respect – they were about 9 minutes or less is less.

Regardless of age, sex and other factors, the risk of diabetes increased by 3.4% with every hour spent in front of the TV.

Previous research has shown that people who watch television 6 hours a day, life expectancy is reduced by approximately 5 years compared with those who did not watch television.

Another scientific work has shown that watching TV may threaten the development of hypertension in children.
