Sounds spoke with the leader of the legendary St. Petersburg group “TV” Michael Borzykin immediately after his arrival from Ukraine, where he gave one of the rare recent concerts our rockers and directly before the performance in Moscow club “B2″, where there will be presentation of the mysterious album “Alienation” , written in 1989, all the while lying “on the shelf” and is only now emerging in the form of dual-boxing set.
Sounds : From the concert placed in bonuses new edition of the album “Megamizantrop” , which is filmed in Kiev club “44″, you play well in the Ukrainian capital. Which program was performed at this time as you took whether it was shot on video?
Michael Borzykin : The program was made up of things from different periods, from “Procession of fish” and ending with the new songs. Received us very warmly, encore, all filmed on camera three guys from Kiev group “The Labyrinth” , who also spoke with us.
Sounds : Tell me about a trip to Kiev – some little things, the details. About life, about people. What do we think about the Ukrainian rock, Ukrainian rock audience – they love here. What do they expect from us, from our music?
Michael : It all started with the fear that there will be problems at the border. But, fortunately, no explanation and papers we have not demanded, and we successfully entered Ukraine. The first day we went to the Maidan, and I was very surprised by the fact that almost no trace of opposition, nor on the Maidan, nor on the street Hrushevskoho nor the surrounding streets remained. Cobbles all new, all the buildings where there were fires, restored. Full feeling that a ten events of limitations and was not at all. The atmosphere is calm and relaxed. At night, go to Kiev large groups of cyclists, hipsters. A young Ukrainian in bandana loudly sings “Star Called Sun” and other songs of Tsoi, people applauded him. We talked a lot with the Ukrainians on the overall situation of the war. The general impression that people want peace, they are tired of the hostilities. But while the number of volunteers who are willing to defend Ukraine at the moment even more than necessary. Weapons less than volunteers. Discussed and details about participation in the events of snipers on the Maidan. Opinions differ, but all agree on one thing: shoot began berkutovskie snipers, and have a video to confirm this. In the future, I and our friends Kiev would like to participate in a major anti-war festival in Kiev – hopefully this will ever come to pass.
It seemed to me that the most important sense, with the expectation that people came to the concert and found it was a sense of solidarity, solidarity of people of good will. That’s the feeling that in Russia there are people who do not fall victim of television propaganda, it is very important for the Ukrainian public.
Sounds : Time restless – and your creativity, in particular. The album “Alienation” which is probably one of the most challenging and legendary destinies stories in our rock music. What is unique – creatively, musically, than it is important for you now?
Michael : Recording the album “Alienation”, one might say, was the first experience of the European type of contractual relations for the group “TV.” We arrived in Moscow, we were placed in a dormitory, and every day from morning to night for a month, we conducted one of the best studios in Russia. This gave the opportunity to fully focus on the musical material. We are no distractions, and we plunged into the work. It was a very important experience for us.
Sounds : how to choose the tracklist of the album, if there are things that you particularly valuable that the album will be performed at the presentation in the “B2″ ?
Michael : We included all new album songs that were written at that time, and decided to make a new arrangement for the “Three or four reptile” and “Your dad fascist” , and also include them in the album. I think in the “B2″ we play b on lshuyu of the album.
Sounds : What kind of music then was the purpose for you, what happened then, no, that was able to save on the ensuing works?
Michael : We wanted to make a serious, professional record that music would be a head taller than the previous ones. Some studio experience we already had, plus a professional sound engineer, great studio, cheerful mood – all this gives hope that the material was interesting. And of course, assess what happened better music critics, and not of us. We enjoyed the work of inspiration that arise in the process of creating arrangements in the studio. It seemed to us, at least, that we have reached a new level of quality and are now able to push off of it.
Sounds : What is your attitude to the current series of reissues – which goes out and “Alienation “. Are you satisfied with the bonuses, registration, that would change?
Michael : I am glad that the whole series is made very high quality – from design to music content. Everything is done carefully and with love. Many bonuses were a surprise to me, and pleased, of course.
Sounds : On the album, “Deja Vu” some songs seem to be very strong, but they are known for less than a watered-hits of the late 80′s. What has changed – the music, the time, the people?
Michael : Of course, times have changed, and after him – and people, and then the music. Very intensive information flow washes out the songs that are not accompanied by a powerful PR. The issue of advertising their own creativity came in first place, much depends on this. People just do not have time to chew stuff. Well, a few criteria of perception shifted towards simplified musical and poetic structures.
Sounds : Although a large share of electronics, I do not know you have experience in a remix to the club instrumetalnoy electronics. Visitors clubs – not a circle for rock music?
Michael : I know a few DJ remixes of our songs, and some sound very interesting, but for the general public club in our country it is too difficult music. IDM in Russia is not held in high esteem.
Sounds : Is there a concept for you, “Russian rock”?
Michael : “Russian rock” – it is a primitive journalistic shortcut to refer to national rock, and he was a member of the achievements in the world of rock music. The “TV” has always sought to become part of the rock of the planet, and not to withdraw within its “Russian-ness”.
