Chinese authorities have banned the satellite broadcasters to buy rights for more than one year abroad program in order to stop the spread of “vulgar” and “excessive” entertainment programs on Chinese television.

A government statement said that the new rule will be introduced in 2014. There is also written that these foreign shows will be banned from being shown in prime time between 7:30 am and 10:00 am during the year, which will be bought right.

In February, regulators issued a directive to broadcasters, which was required to limit foreign TV shows to 50 episodes, and the percentage of foreign broadcasts had to be 25% of the total ether.

Chinese authorities are concerned about the increasing popularity of such shows as “Chinese Idol” – the talent show, which is similar to mega “American Idol.” These types of programs are easily licensed and are very popular among viewers and sponsors.

As advocates of the ban, it will help stimulate the identity of Chinese programs and get rid of “excessive” foreign entertainment shows. But not everyone agrees.

«In the end, the Chinese television will pursue the goal of” less but better “- said media specialists. Others worry that the new rule simply will get rid of television viewers, especially given the rapidly evolving Internet and mobile television.

Meanwhile, the news about the new regulations provoked an angry reaction in the most popular blogging service in China – Weibo.

«Cultural dictatorship – we can do nothing,” – wrote one user. “It’s disgusting – what are we, back to the Cultural Revolution?” – Asks the other. “Television is useless. Fortunately, we have computers “- the third rejoices.

In general, in the opinion of the public, the Chinese satellite television is afraid of losing its status and is afraid of competition, so all they could do is to use such “pathetic measures” for the suppression of other broadcasters.
