Vadim Radionov. Russian world: why television has become God – DELFI.lv

“I know the truth about the events in the Donbass!”, – He says listeners phoned us on the air on radio Baltkom. His voice is confident, without a shadow of a doubt. “How?” – We ask a fellow co-host. “Television should look, then everything becomes clear”, – he said.

It takes place in Riga, capital of Latvia, a country that emerged from the Soviet Union in 1991 and joined in 2004 the European Union.

When television became God?

I have, at least, two childhood memories, which are connected to the TV. In 1986, I, along with my parents watching the news, which tells about the death of the American space shuttle the Challenger, and in 1990, at the age of 10, he was trying to understand what he wants to say to the deputies of the Supreme Council of the first and last president of the USSR Mikhail Gorbachev.

These memories as a particularly clearly imprinted in my memory, and now, wake me up at night, I just answer that looked at “box” 30 years ago.

then, of course, there were also sessions Kashpirovsky, and the program “The view”, and the first foreign “soap”, for example, “The Rich also cry” and became a symbol of the State Emergency Committee “Swan lake”.

The Soviet experience of watching television programs taught, at least part of the audience to “read between the lines” – to look at the official reports in a certain way encrypted messages. Well, or to hope that they are there

“In the edition of propaganda Latvian Radio Committee I once taught:” The first paragraph – according to the decision of the last plenum of the CPSU Central Committee … And then talk sho he likes “-. He says a well-known Latvian broadcaster, professor Sergey Kruk.

In the USSR, paradoxically, watching television was a very entertaining affair. it is now, as it turns out, the television program is essentially colorless and devoid of halftones, and then they On the contrary, allowed to go beyond the “set limits” because to them initially treated with skepticism -… and the authors and the audience

everyone knew that there was censorship Moreover, if not all, then many perfectly understood how to circumvent. the brain includes not only journalists, but also the spectators.

Today, I often meet people who do not question what they see on TV. They are becoming more and more. people believe lead, which over time also begin to believe what they say with television screens

in addition, I regret to have to say that news journalism in the eyes of viewers recently losing ground -. people have become accustomed not only to find out what had happened, but then receive and evaluate events. Many media have allowed themselves to take the place of an umpire who determines what is good and what is bad. Objectivity and impartiality is no longer a trend. And not only in the East but in the West.

The other day I met a colleague, who has long worked with the American and British editions. “You know, I used to believe the Western media as God And now, sadly, things have changed ….”, – She said, adding that she decided to leave journalism

In war as in war

Now it is assumed that in the information war, all means are good. The main thing – to win the sympathy of the audience, and without “anabolics” here does not seem to do without. Looking unnatural emotion – bright, exaggerated, narcotic. Although in reality the division immediately clear and unequivocal: either it is the information war, or journalism. Combinations are not possible.

And if it is really a global information war, which Russia and the West unleashed a conditional in connection with the events in Ukraine, Russia has offered the easiest and most effective way to fight. Russian TV channels removed the shades, making the world of “black and white” in the literal sense of the word. They have simplified the situation to the principles of “friend or foe” and “in war all means are good.” Russian media industry is more adapted to military action, as is subordinate very stiff vertically and can be brought into the firing position for a few minutes. Western media as a society live according to other principles, and to send them to the “war patrol,” one order enough – they still need to be convinced of the correctness of the chosen course

Media experts scratching their heads, what. is the success of Russian TV channels in Russian-speaking residents of foreign countries. For example, in Latvia the Russian TV channels “First”, “Russia” and NTV – are always in the top lines of the national rankings. And watching them not only the local Russian, but a significant percentage of Latvians.

Some people say that the case in high-shows and programs that can offer Russian television giants, others believe that the reason for this is alienation, that Russian experience outside Russia, others say that the channels looking for Russian language.

chained

All of this, of course, affect the popularity of Russian television in foreign countries, but it seems to me, there is another important element that makes it such a powerful weapon – it is an opportunity to link Russian diaspora around the world. Television acts as an information center. It dictates a common agenda, and Russian-speaking population of Latvia and Australia. In fact, television has made the audience his flock, ready to take anything for granted.

Actually, in Russian television for many people in the country it is almost the only thread that can link Moscow and Vladivostok. Or, even more radically – Moscow and the village somewhere in Siberia. Thanks to the TV people feel that they live in one country, one world, with some values.

The same thing happens with the diaspora abroad. On the one hand, they are fragmented, many integrated into society in countries of residence, but the TV, however, gives them a sense of belonging to what is happening in the center of the Russian world. What connects the Russian laborer from the Riga District Kengarags with Vladimir Putin and Anna Netrebko? TV.

This is especially true in more or less isolated diasporas. For example, in Latvia the Russian-speaking community is more than a third of the total population. Many of its members feel sympathy for Russia, and the television allows them to “keep a sense of” belonging to a historical homeland. At the same time people do not want to move to Russia, because it is quite feel comfortable there, where they were born and live.

For the Russian people the scale of importance. Peter Weill wrote no accident that in Russia not measure the distance in kilometers and continents. In the diaspora, this scale is limited, you clearly understand what you are within. And it is interesting that after the collapse of the Soviet Union from Russian de facto dominant groups in the national republics immediately turned into a national minority -, with all the grievances and complexes. Those who at the time of the Soviet Union was on the sidelines, came out on top. This is logical, but psychologically far from everybody and not immediately.

Russian television channels create the illusion of belonging to something big and, of course, beautiful. “We – the Russian, God with us”, and so on. In fact, the Russian television recreates a virtual Soviet Union – with its center in Moscow and the enemies of the gates

Censors is no more, and such as freedom of speech is protected by the Constitution.. TV no longer perceived with irony – now he is “a friend and a teacher.” The danger is that Russian television, as, indeed, and TV in general – it’s a plane, impersonating volume. And if you look closely, you can see it. But take a closer look, you need to concentrate, and in such a rapidly changing plans, computer effects and screaming at each other “competent professionals” make it very difficult to

And why deprive yourself of illusions -. God is with us and says, he seems from the TV screen. In plain and understandable language.

TV should look, then everything will be clear.
