On Japanese TV sued for abuse of foreign words - Sight

Head of amateur societies “Protect Japanese” Hojo Takahashi sued the Japanese public television NHK for excessive use of obscure foreign words, the local media.

Tahakasi, who turned 71 years old, NHK demanded compensation of 1.4 million yen, or 14 thousand dollars, according to ITAR-TASS.

The lawsuit was filed Wednesday in District Court Nagoya.

Tahakasi argues that experiences great mental anguish from a misunderstanding of many of the terms spoken on the air.

plaintiff cited the example of the word “risk” and “concierge” who in contemporary Japanese sound almost the same as in Russian. According to Takahashi, they can completely replace their own Japanese expressions.

Japanese claims that NHK shows a disregard for the native language, despite its public character.

According Takhasi, he directed television writing about this, got no answer and then went to court.

NHK has so far refused to comment.

Japanese public television NHK has several channels, independent of advertising and is funded by fees that citizens of Japan are making for the use of television antennas.
