Another reason to watch less TV – Mednova

 Scientists have discovered why a long time watching television is harmful. Not only that, the people sitting in front of TV, leading a sedentary lifestyle, and often eat harmful food. It turns out that frequent prolonged television viewing increases the likelihood of premature death from blockage of the pulmonary artery.

 There are several risk factors for thromboembolic events, such as obesity, diabetes, smoking and high blood pressure. Now added to the list and long watching TV.

 Japanese researchers led by Toru Shirakawa (Toru Shirakawa) between 1988 and 1990, interviewed more than 86,000 people aged 40 to 79 years, figuring out how many hours a day they spend watching television. Thereafter, for the study participants were followed for 19 years. During this period a pulmonary thromboembolism died 59 people.

 Compared with those who spent watching TV less than 2.5 hours per day, the risk of death from a blockage of the pulmonary artery was increased by 70%, if people were watching television 2,5-4,9 hours. Every additional 2:00 TV viewing increased this probability by 40%.

 Despite the fact that the study was conducted in Japan, scientists believe that the findings apply to people of other nationalities, because the spread of digital television and the Internet, people spend watching TV more and more time. Scientists recommend distracted from watching every hour, changing the position of the body, or even doing light stretching.
